Any amount in foreign currency used in determining the customs value must be converted into Euro. The exchange rates, notified by the Director of Customs and Excise must be used for the conversion.
This notification is published on the penultimate Wednesday of each month and it is valid for the whole of the following month. It is made available to all Custom Houses, Chambers of Commerce, the Association of Customs Clearing Agents and to other interested parties and is published in the Department’s website in PDF. If you wish to see the exchange rates of a specific month, double click the year and the name of the month in the list down below.
The Department of Customs and Excise monitors the exchange rates published by the European Central Bank every Wednesday and whenever a sudden fluctuation, exceeding 5% of the rate notified is established, changes are made via a specific corrective circular which enters into force on the following Wednesday. In the website the circular is inserted next to the month to which it relates. In addition the amendments are entered in the columns headed "Date of amendment" and "New rate" of the list of the month.
