Customs and Excise Department

..your health and safety
Customs services fight counterfeiting, which is a growing and increasingly dangerous phenomenon affecting not only luxury fashion goods, but also medicines, toothpaste and body care products. Counterfeit products seized by customs in the last few years include car parts, even brakes, and fake sunglasses which can damage eyesight. It goes without saying that fighting and dismantling that kind of trafficking contributes to improving the health and safety of citizens. Seizures of such items by customs officers in the EU have reached huge numbers recently.

Customs authorities also protect public health by keeping a close watch on “
drug precursors”, those innocuous chemicals all too often diverted to manufacture drugs such as ecstasy or amphetamines.

...your security

The EU has introduced measures to tighten security around goods crossing international borders. This will mean faster and better targeted checks. The results of these measures are positive for the public, industry and customs authorities alike. Customs authorities have introduced proper security checks to protect the internal market and, in close cooperation with major trading partners around the world, to secure international freight transport against smuggling of terrorist-related goods, such as weapons and explosives.
