Latest Figures: Provisional Estimates for the Industrial Sector, 2016

On the basis of provisional estimates of the Statistical Service, employment in the broad industrial sector in 2016 increased by 4,2% to 33,4 thousand compared to 32,1 thousand in 2015. In manufacturing employment reached 29,2 thousand, in mining and quarrying 0,4 thousand, in electricity supply 2,1 thousand and in water supply, sewerage and waste management 1,7 thousand persons.

In the whole of the industrial sector, production value recorded an increase of 1,5% to €3.654,9 million in 2016 compared to €3.599,4 million in 2015. In manufacturing production value increased by 6,4% to €2.734,4 million and in water supply, sewerage and waste management by 2,5% to €279,0 million. On the other hand, production value decreased in electricity supply by 9,6% to €596,6 million and in mining and quarrying by 54,3% to €44,9 million.

Value added at current prices rose by 4,6% in the total of industry and reached €1.437,3 million in 2016 compared to €1.374,4 million in 2015. In manufacturing value added increased by 8,2% and in water supply, sewerage and waste management by 3,5%. On the contrary, value added decreased in electricity supply by 2,1% and in mining and quarrying by 34,8%.
