New Publication: Wholesale and Retail Trade Statistics, 2014
The Statistical Service announces the publication of the annual report «Wholesale and Retail Trade Statistics, 2014».
The report provides detailed data on turnover, production value, value added, employment, labour cost and other expenses, as well as on gross fixed capital formation.
The main developments during 2014 were as follows:
(a) The wholesale and retail trade sector appeared to be stabilising compared to the previous years. The value added of the sector at constant prices recorded an increase of 0,4% in 2014 following decreases of 11,9% in 2013, 2,9% in 2012 and 2,2% in 2011. At current market prices, the value added of the sector decreased marginally by 0,5% to €1.601,7 mn compared to €1.609,0 mn in 2013.
(b) The turnover of the trade sector decreased by 0,6% to €10.900,0 mn in 2014 compared to €10.961,0 mn in 2013.
(c) By division, turnover in wholesale trade decreased by 1,2% and in retail trade by 0,7%, whereas turnover in trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles increased by 5,2%.
(d) Employment in the sector increased marginally by 0,1% to 59.836 persons in 2014 and accounted for 14,6% of the total gainfully employed population.
(e) Gross fixed capital formation in the sector increased to €146,1 mn in 2014 from €116,6 mn in 2013. Investments in land and buildings accounted for €77,6 mn, in machinery, furniture and other equipment €53,4 mn and in transport equipment €15,1 mn.
