New Publication: Transport Statistics, 2015
The Statistical Service announces the publication of the annual report «Transport Statistics» for the year 2015.
The report provides detailed information on the economic developments in the transport sector, as well as data on the registration of motor vehicles by type and category, road accidents, shipping and aviation activities, transportation of goods and passengers and postal services.
The main developments can be summarized as follows:
(a) The broad transport and storage sector registered in 2014 an increase of 1,1% in gross output at current prices to €2.365,7 million, compared to €2.340,4 million in 2013.
The value added of the sector increased by 4,3% to €740,7 million in 2014, compared to €709,9 million in 2013.
(b) The total registrations of motor vehicles during 2015 increased by 15,9%, reaching 25.735, compared to 22.203 in 2014. Passenger saloon cars increased by 19,7% to 21.462 in 2015, compared to 17.933 in 2014.
Vehicles of all types and categories on the register of the Road Transport Department at the end of 2015 totalled 781.843, compared to 770.430 at the end of 2014.
(c) The number of road accidents reported to the police decreased to 958 in 2015 compared to 1.153 in 2014. Casualties in road accidents were 57 persons killed and 947 persons injured in 2015, as against 45 dead and 1.070 injured in 2014.
(d) During 2015, 2.890 vessels called at the various ports of Cyprus compared to 2.886 in 2014. Of these 1.775 or 61,4% arrived at Lemesos port, 629 or 21,8% called at Larnaka port and the remaining 486 at other ports.
At the end of 2015, there were 1.704 ships on the Cyprus Register with a total of 22.870.983 gross registered tonnage, as against 1.765 ships in 2014, with a total of 22.708.237 gross registered tonnage.
(e) Civil aircraft landings during 2015 increased to 28.839 compared to 28.447 in 2014. Passenger arrivals through airports increased to 3.891.669 in 2015, compared to 3.748.920 in 2014.
(f) A total of 48,0 million letters and postcards were received by postal services during 2015, compared to 53,2 million in 2014.
