PRESS RELEASE

Cyprus Government Lottery awarded the
European Lottery Responsible Gaming Certification (26/08/2022)

The National Lottery of Cyprus (NLC) is proud to announce that it has been awarded with the prestigious European Lotteries Association (ELΑ) Responsible Gaming Certification. This certification signifies a departure for the NLC, as it emphasises its commitment to set consumer safety in the centre of its operations by adopting the highest standards in terms responsible practises and sustainability. By collaborating closely with the National Betting Authority and other international experts, the NLC underwent a complete review of its operation to align itself with the responsible gaming framework of the ELΑ.

Since its inception, the NLC has been offering entertaining games to its players whilst funding good causes of the Cypriot culture. However, with the constant change in the market and societal demands, in 2022 the NLC has taken the lead on creating and maintaining a safer gambling environment by integrating the best practices in terms of responsible gaming in its operation.

Rea Georgiou, the Accountant General of the Republic and Director of Lotteries stated, “We are very proud today as the State is leading by example. The legislation is here as a basis but the NLC is aiming to go beyond. By supporting responsible gaming and demonstrating our commitment, we look forward to constructive cooperation with all stakeholders in the sector. We would like to thank the National Betting Authority for the assistance granted for the successful certification of the NLC.

The responsible gaming programme of the NLC has been crafted with the support of many partners. ‘’We thank all those involved in this process. Our journey was not an easy one. Under the guidance of the National Betting Authority, especially Christina Christoforou and Spyros Tsakonitis, we have been able to go through this transformation seamlessly. Yet, we still have much to do. Having partners, such as DigitalRG.com, push us to challenge ourselves. We also thank the European Lottery Association for encouraging lotteries, big and small, to be part of this movement and become change makers,” concluded Angelos Efthymiou, Head of the Cyprus Government Lottery.
