LATEST FIGURES: CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, OCT 2008

The Consumer Price Index for October 2008, increased by 0,94 units or 0,84% to 112,55 units compared to 111,61 in September 2008. This is mainly due to increases in the prices of clothing and footwear items, the fees of private third level educational institutions and potatoes. Decreases have been recorded in the prices of petroleum products and certain fresh fruit and vegetables.

The rate of increase of the Index and therefore the rate of inflation for October 2008 was 5,2% compared to 5,3% in September 2008 and 3,0% in October 2007.

For the period January-October 2008, the CPI recorded an increase of 5,1% compared to the corresponding period of 2007.
