New Publication: Registration of Motor Vehicles, Jan-Sep 2017

The Statistical Service announces the publication of the report entitled "Registration of Motor Vehicles" for the period January-September 2017.

The main developments in the first nine months of 2017, compared to the same period of 2016, were:

(a) The total registrations of motor vehicles increased by 29,4% to 32.833 in January-September 2017, from 25.375 vehicles in the same period of 2016.

(b) Passenger saloon cars increased to 27.140, from 20.991 in January-September 2016, i.e. there was an increase of 29,3%. Of the total passenger saloon cars, 10.362 or 38,2% were new and 16.778 or 61,8% were used cars.

(c) Goods conveyance vehicles increased by 45,3% to 3.180 in January-September 2017, compared to 2.188 in January-September 2016.

Light goods vehicles increased by 43,4% to 2.676, from 1.866 in January-September 2016.

Heavy goods vehicles increased by 45,8% to 309 in January-September 2017, from 212 in January-September 2016.

Road tractors (units of trailers) increased by 77,3% to 195 in January-September 2017, from 110 in January-September 2016.

(d) Mopeds < 50cc increased by 24,6% to 218 in January-September 2017, compared to 175 in January-September 2016.

(e) Mechanised cycles > 50cc increased by 6,3% to 1.913 in the first nine months of 2017, compared to 1.800 in the corresponding period of 2016.
