The Consumer Price Index for July 2009, decreased by 1,77units or 1,60% to 108,97 units compared to 110,74 in June 2009. This is mainly due to decreases in the prices of clothing, footwear and furnishing due to summer sale discounts as well as to decreases in the prices of certain fresh fruit and vegetables. Increases have been recorded in the prices of potatoes, electricity and gas.

The rate of increase of the Index and therefore the rate of inflation for July 2009 recorded a negative rate of inflation for the first time since October 1986 of -0,8% compared to 0,2% in June 2009 and 5,6% in July 2008.

For the period January-July 2009, the CPI recorded an increase of 0,5% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
