LATEST FIGURES: QUARTERLY ACCOUNTS OF GENERAL GOVERNMENT, 3rd QUARTER 2007

On the basis of the preliminary data on the General Government accounts for the period January-September 2007, compiled in accordance to E.U concepts and definitions, the total revenue amounted to £3007,3mn (18,9% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2006), while total expenditure reached £2700,9mn,(6,1% increase) resulting to a surplus of £306,4mn as compared to £16,7mn deficit in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The main categories of revenue for the period July-September 2007 were: taxes on production and imports £471,3mn (24,8% increase), of which VAT was £263,2mn (20% increase), taxes on income and wealth £398,2mn (34,6% increase).Revenue from sales of goods and services decreased by 15,1% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The main categories of expenditure for the period July-September 2007 were: compensation of employees £325,7mn (5,7% increase), and social transfers £263,4mn (13,6% increase),current transfers reached £80,8mn(11,4% decrease). Positive growth rates were observed in the categories of capital formation (11,6% increase) and intermediate consumption (2,9% increase).
