LATEST FIGURES: MAIN AGGREGATES OF GENERAL GOVERNMENT, SEQUENCE OF ACCOUNTS OF GENERAL GOVERNMENT 1998-2005

(a) On the basis of the preliminary data on the General Government accounts for the Year 2005, compiled in accordance to E.U concepts and definitions, the total revenue amounted to £3.273,7 mn (13,6% increase in relation to the year 2004) while total expenditure reached £3.459,3 mn (8,8% increase) i.e. there was a deficit of £185,6 mn (2,4% of GDP)compared to a deficit of £298,8 mn (4,1 % of GDP)during the year 2004.

(b) The main categories of revenue for the year 2005 were: taxes on production and imports £1.355 mn (7,4% increase), of which VAT was £776,5 mn (increase 15,5%), taxes on income and wealth £729,9 mn (23% increase), social contributions £650,1 mn (14,2% increase).

The main categories of expenditure for the year 2005 were: compensation of employees £1.152,7 mn (5% increase), and social transfers £1.005,73mn (13,3% increase).

( c) The General Government Gross Debt reached £5.442,9 mn at the end of the year 2005 (70,3% of GDP) in comparison with £5.198,8 mn in the year 2004 (71,7% of GDP).
