LATEST FIGURES: QUARTERLY ACCOUNTS OF GENERAL GOVERNMENT, 2nd QUARTER 2005

According to the preliminary data on the General Government accounts for the period April-June 2005, compiled in accordance to E.U concepts and definitions, the total revenue amounted to £664,7 mn (0,6% increase in relation to the second quarter of 2004) while total expenditure reached £741,4 mn (4,5% increase) i.e. there was a deficit of £76,7 mn compared to a deficit of £49,1 mn during the second quarter of 2004.

For the period January-June 2005 total revenue amounted to £1493,5mn and total expenditure amounted to £1456,4 mn resulting to a surplus of £37,1 mn (0,5% of GDP).

The main categories of revenue for the period Jan-June 2005 were: taxes on production and imports £619,7 mn, of which VAT was £361,8 mn (12,1% increase), taxes on income and wealth £303,1 mn (7,7% increase), social contributions £281,2 mn (1,2% increase).

The main categories of expenditure for the first half of 2005 were: compensation of employees £532,5 mn (3,9% increase), and social transfers £419,5 mn (12,9% increase).
