Latest Figures: Quarterly Accounts of General Government, 3rd Quarter 2012

On the basis of the preliminary data on the General Government accounts for the period July-September 2012, compiled in accordance to E.U. concepts and definitions, the total revenue amounted to €1.913,4 mn (3,6% decrease compared to the corresponding period of 2011), while total expenditure reached €1.944,8 mn (2,5% increase), resulting to a deficit of €31,4 mn as compared to €86,5 mn surplus in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The main categories of revenue for the period July-September 2012 were: taxes on production and imports €675,0 mn (0,5% increase), of which VAT was €395,4 mn (0,5% decrease), and taxes on income and wealth €600,7 mn (15,1% decrease). Revenue from sales of goods and services increased by 36,6% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The main categories of expenditure for the period July-September 2012 were: compensation of employees €699,0 mn (0,7% decrease), social transfers €641,2 mn (1,9% increase), interest paid €194,9 mn (59,9% increase) and current transfers €56,0 mn (18,9% increase). Negative growth rates of 24,8% and 1,9% were observed in the categories of the capital formation and intermediate consumption respectively.
