Latest Figures: Quarterly Accounts of General Government, 3rd Quarter 2013

On the basis of the preliminary data on the General Government accounts for the period July-September 2013, compiled in accordance to EU concepts and definitions, the total revenue amounted to €1681,1 mn (11,2% decrease as compared to the corresponding period of 2012), while total expenditure reached €1795,7 mn (6,7% decrease) resulting in a deficit of €114,6 mn as compared to a deficit of €31,4 mn of the corresponding period of the previous year.

The main categories of revenue for the period July-September 2013 were: taxes on production and imports €632,7 mn (6,3% decrease) – of which VAT €347,5 mn (12,1% decrease) – and taxes on income and wealth €526,3 mn (10,9% decrease). Revenue from sales of goods and services decreased by 24,0% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year reaching 111,5 mn.

The main categories of expenditure for the period July-September 2013 were: compensation of employees €622,2 mn (8,4% decrease), and social transfers €613,7 mn (4,3% decrease). Negative growth was also observed in the category of capital formation (25,1% decrease) reaching €77,9 mn while current transfers reached €70,9 mn (26,6% increase).
