Latest Figures: Quarterly Accounts of General Government, 1st Quarter 2014

On the basis of the preliminary data on the General Government accounts for the period January-March 2014, compiled in accordance to EU concepts and definitions, the total revenue amounted €1.565,6 mn (12,3% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2013), while total expenditure reached €1.597,2 mn, (14,1% increase) resulting in a deficit of €31,6 mn as compared to a €5,3 mn deficit in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The main categories of revenue for the period January-March 2014 were: taxes on production and imports €556,3 mn (24,8% increase), of which VAT was €303,5 mn (24,0% increase); and taxes on income and wealth €445,9 mn (9,3% increase). Revenue from sales of goods and services increased by 31,4% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year reaching €107,0 mn.

The main categories of expenditure for the period January-March 2014 were: social transfers €605,9 mn (34,8% increase), compensation of employees (including imputed social contributions and pensions of civil servants) €532,0 mn (12,5% decrease), and intermediate consumption €142,4 mn (2,7% increase). Current transfers reached €99,4 mn (a 12,7% decrease as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year).
