LATEST FIGURES: CONSUMER PRICE INDEX, JAN 2009
05/02/2009

The Consumer Price Index for January 2009 decreased by 2,58 units or 2,34% to 107,76 units compared to 110,34 in December 2008. This is mainly due to decreases in the prices of clothing, footwear and household furnishing items due to sale discounts as well as to decreases in the prices of electricity and petroleum products. Increases have been recorded in the prices of certain fresh vegetables and fruit, lamb and goat meat.

The rate of increase of the Index and therefore the rate of inflation for January 2009 continued the downward trend observed in the last few months and fell to 1,1% compared to 2,1% in December 2008 and 4,3% in January 2008.
