Latest Figures: Consumer Price Index, Jan 2011

The Consumer Price Index for January 2011 decreased by 0,94 units or 0,82% to 113,51 units compared to 114,45 in December 2010. This is mainly due to decreases in the prices of clothing, footwear and household furnishing items due to sale discounts. Increases have been recorded in the prices of foodstuffs and medicine due to the increase of Value Added Tax from 0% to 5%. Increases have also been recorded in the prices of petroleum products as well as to the salaries of foreign housemaids.

The rate of increase of the Index, and therefore the rate of inflation, for January 2011 increased to 2,8% compared to 1,6% in December 2010 and 2,4% in January 2010.
