The Consumer Price Index for September 2009, increased by 1,09 units or 1,0% to 110,24 units compared to 109,15 in August 2009. This is mainly due to increases in the prices of certain clothing and footwear items, fresh fruit and vegetables, tuition fees of private educational institutions and part-time education coaching centres and electricity. Decreases have been recorded in the prices of petroleum products.

The rate of inflation for September 2009 continued the downward trend and fell to -1,2% compared to -1,0% in August 2009 and 5,3% in September 2008.

For the period January-September 2009, the CPI recorded an increase of 0,1% compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
