Latest Figures: Quarterly Accounts of General Government, 2nd Quarter 2018

On the basis of the preliminary data on the General Government accounts for April-June 2018, which are compiled in accordance to EU concepts and definitions (ESA 2010), total revenue amounted €1.774,5 mn (8,1% increase as compared to the corresponding period of 2017), while total expenditure reached €1.793,2 mn (0,8% increase), resulting in a deficit of €18,7 mn as compared to a deficit of €86,5 mn in the corresponding period of the previous year.

The main categories of revenue for the period April-June 2018 were: taxes on production and imports €778,4 mn (10,2% increase as compared to the second quarter of 2017), of which VAT was €488,6 mn (19,8% increase), social contributions €460,0 mn (14,6% increase), and taxes on income and wealth €276,4 mn (6,3% increase). Revenue from sales of goods and services reached €140,6 mn registering a decrease of 12,1% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The main categories of expenditure for the period April-June 2018 were: social transfers €715,0 mn (4,3% increase compared to the corresponding period of 2017), and compensation of employees (including imputed social contributions and pensions of civil servants) €553,6 mn (0,6% increase). The capital account recorded an expenditure of €209,0 mn (€93,2 mn investments and €115,8 mn capital transfers) as compared to €209,9 mn in 2017 (€97,2 mn investments and €112,7 mn capital transfers), a decrease of 0,4% as compared to the corresponding period of last year. Intermediate consumption reached €176,4 mn (1,3% increase as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year).
