Latest Figures: Average Monthly Earnings of Employees by Quarter, 2nd quarter 2010

According to the preliminary estimations of the Statistical Service, the average monthly earnings of employees during the second quarter of 2010 amounted to €1860 (males €2047 and females €1636).

In comparison with the second quarter of 2009, an increase of 1,4% was recorded in the average monthly earnings of employees (males 0,9% and females 2,7%). The corresponding increase observed during the second quarter of 2009 was 4,8%, indicating that the rate of increase of the level of earnings in Cyprus is significantly lower in 2010 compared to 2009.

In comparison with the first quarter of 2010 (seasonally adjusted data) there was a marginal decrease of -0,4% in the average monthly earnings of employees (males -0,7% and females 0,3%).The decrease is mainly due to the fact that several employers paid the 14th salary in the first quarter (March) instead of the second quarter which had been the usual practice, because Easter was very early this year (4 April). The corresponding percentage change observed during the second quarter of 2009 was 0,7%.
