New Publication: Statistics of Education, 2013/2014
The Statistical Service announces that it has published the annual report "Statistics of Education" for the school year 2013/14. The report provides detailed information regarding the number of educational institutions, pupils/students, teaching and non-teaching personnel and expenditure, at each level of education.
The main data included in the report are:
(a) At all levels of education, there were 1.283 educational institutions, 174.291 pupils/students and 16.043 teachers, giving a pupil/student to teacher ratio of 10,9.
(b) Of the total number of pupils/students, 73,7% were enrolled in public/communal schools and 26,3% in private schools.
(c) The enrolments of pupils/students by level of education were as follows: Pre-school and Pre-primary 28.448, Primary 52.790, Secondary 58.634, Post-Secondary Non-Tertiary 372, Tertiary 33.674 and Special education 373.
(d) Cypriot students studying at the Tertiary Educational Institutions of Cyprus amounted to 23.867, whereas the foreign students amounted to 9.807. From the total number of students, 83,0% were studying in University Institutions and 17,0% in Non-University Tertiary Educational Institutions.
(e) Public expenditure in public and private education for year 2013 stood at €1.188,4 millions, for all levels, which represents 13,3% of the Government budget and 6,6% of the Gross Domestic Product. The current public cost per pupil/student in public schools by level of education was as follows: Pre-school and Pre-primary €5.115, Primary €6.161, Secondary €9.545 and Tertiary €12.313.
